We went to Ocean City in summer of 2014 and we had a blast. We stayed for 5 days there and we always went for a morning walk on the seashore to breath the air from the ocean and see neat things. Although I grew up in a coastal region and being by the ocean was an everyday thing, living here in the WV is a different story. We live so far from the ocean that's why, we love taking the kids to places that we don't have here. Ocean City trip was a real treat for them.
My kids have never seen a horseshoe crab before so when I saw one in Ocean City, I immediately called them and showed it to them. They were scare of it but at least they got to see how it looks like.
I was honestly surprised to see a big one down there. O only seen some of these back home but they weren't very big.
Here's an info I got from wikipedia.
Horseshoe crabs are marine arthropods of the family Limulidae that live primarily in and around shallow ocean waters on soft sandy or muddy bottoms. They occasionally come onto shore to mate. They are commonly used as bait and in fertilizer. In recent years, a decline in the population has occurred as a consequence of coastal habitat destruction in Japan and over harvesting along the east coast of North America. Tetrodotoxin may be present in the roe of species inhabiting the waters of Thailand. Because of their origin 450 million years ago (Mya), horseshoe crabs are considered living fossils
